Planning an Upgrade? Here are 5 Things You Should Not Miss.
Solution Blog:
1. List of Current Issues ( Product issues and performance Issues)
a. List out current issues in Teamcenter (Product issues)
b. List out performance issues if any
This will be helping during testing after the upgrade to verify if the key product issues are resolved or not, also it will help to understand whether performance is better or worst. In such cases where upgrades are from 10 to 14, it’s recommended to have intermediate milestones i.e. at TC 11, and TC 12 versions and verify key use cases and performance behaviour, instead of checking at the final version.
2. Depth of the Current Customization
It is necessary to understand the current customization state. If it is highly customized then need to plan all the code porting or code re-writing activities. As all the code may not work as it did in the latest versions need to re-write code in a few cases. Also, there might be a need to obsolete RAC customization and implement all the use cases in AW (which is a preferred client from Siemens for end users).
3. Current Architecture & Integrations
With the newer version of TC need to check if it will fit in the current architecture or needs any changes, also need to check its compatibility with the integrations as need to plan the upgrades of the integrated software as well along with TC upgrades.
4. Infrastructure Need
With the newest version of TC, the infrastructure needs will also vary like machine type, machine capacity, OS versions etc. All these should be in place and planned before starting the upgrades
5. Software Versions and Licensing
Based on the targeted versions it’s recommended to list out licensing needs and all such licenses need to be in place before proceeding with upgrades. It includes TC, DB and all other third-party licenses.
BONUS POINT:
Usability Issues and Training Plans
When it’s upgraded to the latest versions like TC 14, it’s a big change for all users. So user acceptance and user training should be planned at regular intervals.
